A Creative Twist on the Beloved Addams Family
1 min read

The North Shore Theatre Company are showcasing their creative take on the iconic cultural sensation, The Addams Family.

The on-stage musical production will tell an original story with the beloved characters. Gomez Addams keeps his first secret from his wife: that their dark and moody daughter, Wednesday, has fallen in love with a respectable, sweet young man. The tale unravels as the two families join for a dinner party, and the Addams Family meet Wednesday’s boyfriend’s seemingly normal parents.

The production will be held at the Zenith Theatre and Convention Centre in Chatswood, running over two weekends from the 15th of September to the 23rd of September.

Formerly known as the Chatswood Musical Society, the North Shore Theatre Company was founded in 1951, establishing themselves as one of the leading musical theatres groups in Sydney. NSTC relies on the generosity of the community and patrons to keep the Company funded and able to perform their creative and clever musical shows to the public.

Earlier this year, the North Shore Theatre Company presented Aladdin Junior, an abridged version of the Disney musical, and Be More Chill, a production focused on teenagers in high school. The decision to do a rendition of the Addams Family was chosen in 2020, though the NSTC were unable to put on the show with COVID restrictions. The musical comes in due time, however, as with the Netflix sensation “Wednesday” sparking cultural waves over the last year.

‘Everyone knows the family, but it’s a slightly different take on the normal story, with characters that you know and love, but with brand new original music,’ says Jessica Scanlan, President of the North Shore Theatre Company. ‘We feel that the Addams Family caters to a lot of people, and that’s why we put on shows, to entertain as many people as we can.’
