Damian Showyin, representing Studio A, wins Digital Fabrics Award

CONGRATULATIONS to Damian Showyin who won the Digital Fabrics Award for his work 'Building Grids' at the Seed Stitch Contemporary Textile Awards!

Showyin is known as a wonderful builder in colour, constructing his paintings from softly brushed blocks, stacks and windows

Showyin’s preferred mediums in his artworks include acrylic, oil pastel, chalk pastel and posca, applying them mostly on paper.

He was commissioned by the University of Technology, Sydney, in 2019 to complete a mural in the university’s central food court called “Bird Life Jungle Disco”.

When not painting, Damian works hard on the loom, weaving compelling textile wall pieces, sculptures and cushions.

The Seed Stitch Contemporary Textile Awards exhibition opened on 7th October celebrating Studio A finalists, Catherine McGuiness, Victoria Atkinson, of course Damian Showyin.

Seed Stitch aims to support excellence across textile and fibre craft and this year the exhibition showcases 15 finalists from across NSW and the ACT.
