WICKED Celebrates 20 Years
1 min read

Broadway sensation WICKED celebrated 20 years this past October.

To commemorate the success of the beloved musical, the Australian company hosted two performances at the Sydney Lyric Theatre on the 29th of October. The first performance at 1pm saw Glinda, the ‘Pink’, and the 6.30pm performance saw Elphaba, the ‘Green’. Audiences were encouraged to dress in pink and green to win a “best dressed” prize, all while being served themed pink and green cocktails.

WICKED follows the tale of two young women arriving in the land of Oz. Glinda, a bubbly popular girl, and Elphaba, an emerald-skinned fiery girl. The two are rivals, then friends, and then finally become known as the “good” and “wicked” witches of Oz.

WICKED is one of the most success Broadway musicals, winning over 100 major awards, including the Grammy Award, and three Tony Awards.

‘For 20 years, WICKED has cast its spell over audiences across the world, and it’s become one of the most beloved musicals ever,’ says WICKED Australia producer John Frost. ‘I’m thrilled that Sydney audiences have embraced WICKED ¬– the reaction from audiences and critics alike has been overwhelming. Our Australian cast are second to none, and universally praised.’

The Australian cast includes Courtney Monsma as Glinda the Good, Sheridan Adams as Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West, Robyn Nevin as Madame Morrible, Todd McKenney as the Wizard, Liam Head as Fiyero, Adam Murphy as Dr Dillamond, Shewit Belay plays Nessarose, and Kurtis Papadinis will be Boq.

WICKED will be playing at the Sydney Lyric Theatre, The Star until the 4th of February 2024.
