Labor Candidate, David Brigden Stands for Bradfield
3 min read

DAVID Brigden is running as the Labor candidate for the electorate of Bradfield. Born in the Royal Northshore hospital, David spent the early years of his life living in St Ives with his family, he moved to Lindfield by the time he married and had children. Prior to that, David completed his studies at Sydney University, attaining a Bachelor of Laws and became a solicitor specialising in planning and environmental law, with interests in land compensation and property law, areas which he has focused upon since 1978.

All of David’s three children have now grown up and pursued careers of their own, however David fondly remembered back when his children were young how he was always involved in his children’s sports teams, including being head coach of his daughters’ football team. He still maintains an involvement with youth in his community, serving as State Commissioner for youth protection and issues management for Scouts NSW. David currently resides in Wahroonga.

David’s family was initially a Liberal supporting one, being consistent voters for former Bradfield MP, Billy Hughes. However, they eventually changed to being Labor supporters after feeling the Liberals did not adequately represent small business.

David has decided to run for election due to his dissatisfaction with government-handled issues. Among the most recent, were what David sees as unnecessary Government spending in the Jobkeeper program, and a poorly executed vaccine rollout. While David sees these issues as negatively impacting Bradfield during the last two years, he also feels the need to legislate a Federal ICAC, a greater focus on cost of living, e.g., house pricing.

However, as David explained the only way to improve the lives of the people of Bradfield is to improve the “lives of all people across Australia”.

David has now focused heavily on his campaign, doing as much as he can to raise awareness over issues he feels need attention as well as greeting people at local train stations in the morning. He enjoys discussing with people their work, and explaining to them what he has envisioned if elected plus if a Labor Government is elected.

One of the issues he likes to discuss is preserving the local habitat and environment. As a former environmental lawyer, he feels very passionate about climate change and a key agenda for David is enacting policies which would better protect local flora and fauna. While David did list a large amount of ideas in which he believes he can improve his community, the specificity of it will be seen if elected, however he believed primarily that Labor policy was key to improving his community. Ultimately, David surmised his agenda and supporters agenda by explaining “we are all aiming to do something that is good”.

David has acknowledged the difficulty of a Labor candidate winning Bradfield, which has always been Liberal. However, one of David’s leading agendas is to educate his local community about Labor policies and provide an alternative to Liberal policies.

David appears at local train stations in the morning to discuss with those willing to listen.
