Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.

Mary-Anne O’Connor, a novelist based in northern Sydney, brings stories of the First World War in her new book “At the Going Down of the Sun”.

Remembering the tragedies of war, especially as conflict strikes presently across the globe, shows our respect for the servicemen and women who sacrificed, while allowing us to garner a deeper understanding of the complex nature of war.

In her newest book, Mary-Anne brings the tale of Australian pilots in Gallipoli and the Western Front, and the unlikely friendships they formed with enemy air forces. Mary-Anne writes of the courage and sacrifice of Australian soldiers as they experienced the horrors of Gallipoli, and how still after they reenlisted for the conflict at the Somme.

Her novel is historical fiction, a compelling mix of true fact with fiction for an engaging recount.

After extensive research, Mary-Anne brings these stories to the world, fighting against time to prevent important tales fading away.

The Post will publish an article in our May edition reviewing “At the Going Down of the Sun” by Mary-Anne O’Connor.
