Hornsby-Ku-ring-gai Meals on Wheels becomes ‘The Village Chef’
1 min read

HORNSBY-KURINGGAI Meals on Wheels has rapidly grown since its Australian establishment in 1961. The service has been delivering traditional home-cooked meals directly to the homes of seniors who need support as they may not have easy access to a supermarket.

The organisation runs on a voluntary basis; without volunteers preparing and delivering the food, it would not exist.

Meals on Wheels has now become a treasured community organisation with a vast number of clients and volunteers. It has now branched from the North Shore into the Northern Beaches. So rather than having a a title such as “Hornsby-Kuringgai-Northern Beaches Meals on Wheels” the organisation has decided it’s time for a rebrand.

‘The Village Chef’ as it’s now known will officially launch their new brand from the 1st of May. The rebrand includes an expanded menu ranging from Asian, Italian, Indian and vegetarian along with the staples of freshly made sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts.

Tony Lyons is the chef behind the cuisine; he’s been preparing food for the organisation for over 20 years. He said that he looks forward for what’s ahead for the organisation.

The General Manager of The Village Chef, Alex Kane, made a speech at the organisation’s official launch event on the 16th of March which depicted what he thought about the future of The Village Chef. He highlighted his excitement for this rebrand, and gratitude to those who make what they do possible.

Ku-ring-gai Mayor, Jeff Pettett, also said at The Village Chef Launch Event, “the service means different things to different people, but at its heart is that care for the community and strengthening a sense of connection”.
