1 min read

THE Lower North Shore Greens have introduced their candidate for the seat of Willoughby in the upcoming NSW state election; Edmund McGrath.

Currently working as an urban planner, Ed is passionate about improving neighbourhoods and creating sustainable green spaces, holding a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Sydney.

“I envision a planning system that makes decisions on evidence and community consensus: and have an ambitious vision for a green network over our public open spaces and golf courses with Jacarandas to attract tourism and blooming wattles to attract wildlife, with interconnected walkways where weekend sustainable market stalls sell produce from local entrepreneurs. The interplay between urban planning, local branding and sustainable economic development is something is which Willoughby has immense potential to lead and I am here to prove that a green choice is a choice for a stronger economy not on legislative loopholes, expert panels or developer pressure” stated Ed McGrath

Sustainable development will be a key issue for the Greens in Willoughby. As will education, which is an area Ed has extensive knowledge and experience in. After obtaining his Master of Teaching, Education from Deakin University, he taught social science and worked at Teach For Australia, an organisation that assists with providing teachers for addressing educational disadvantage in regional and rural schools and areas with socio-economic disadvantage.

“Through my teaching, I have seen students and teachers do so incredibly well, despite the immense challenges they faced during COVID. I am an advocate for a public education system that supports students and Teachers to be happier and feel more valued.” Ed McGrath said

Another area of focus for this campaign will be health. Throughout his life Ed has done a lot to help those in need, from his work with the Australian League of Immigration Volunteers to International Humanity Foundation and Refugees International Japan. Throughout the upcoming campaign he will look to promote greater and more equitable care in our health system.
