Wahroonga’s Karoo and Co Cafe and Restaurant
2 min read

We recently visited what can only be described as a coffee lovers gem planted in the heart of Wahroonga, called 'Karoo and Co' cafe and restaurant.

This vibey coffee shop boasts rustic and warm decor, making it the perfect escape from the winter chill. Whether you're looking for a cozy spot on a lazy morning or taking the entire family to experience the lively atmosphere, Karoo and Co offer something for everyone.

This family-run business by the Du Plessis family, who hail from South Africa, has been around for the last decade, opening their doors in 2013. The amount of foot traffic and bustle that was going on at the cafe on a Tuesday morning was quite remarkable. People who stop by for a takeaway on their morning walks to families and friends sitting down to order from the range of breakfast food options. The place was buzzing with activity as loyal customers were seen coming and going throughout the morning.

Friendly staff upon arrival provided excellent service, Matthew, the head barista, was especially great to chat with. He never ceased multitasking, serving and brewing. Judging by his conversations with everyone waiting at the door for their orders, he clearly has a love for his community.

I highly recommend trying the Italian three-egg omelette or the Karoo Big Breakfast, both delicious, hearty feeds covering all the breakfast necessities. Special mention to the house-made Italian sausages in the big brekkie, which were particularly outstanding. Catching the eye, too, was the 'Shakshuka Eggs' (pictured below), a proper winter's delight, glowing with the colour of rich, slow-cooked tomato and capsicum, having me questioning whether to sit back down to try.

It's also exciting to know that the cafe turns into a restaurant by night, serving wood-fired pizza and pasta, partnered with a wide selection of nighttime beverages. The large wood fire oven met with a wall of red wine make the place ooze with character and charm. The nighttime transition to a restaurant makes me want to visit again soon with friends to take in their dinner setup.

I recommend doing yourself a favour this winter and checking out this local hotspot, add it to your list next time you venture out for a new coffee and dining experience!
