$7 Million Donation to the Sydney Adventist Hospital
1 min read

The Sydney Adventist Hospital has unveiled a new imaging centre with the latest digital PET-CT technology.

The Robert and Jeanne Szeto PET-CT Centre will house a new generation of PET-CT scanners that give a larger field of view in a shorter time span when imaging patients. This technology also requires a smaller dose of radiation during the imaging process, which both improves on the safety of staff and patients. PET-CT scanners are able to change lives with their early detection of cancer and brain diseases, such as Alzheimer’s.

Within the centre there will be a radiopharmaceutical laboratory, reporting rooms, a large waiting area, as well as spe-cialised rooms for patients to lounge comfortably.

The new centre has been made possible by the generous $7 million donation of Dr Edwin Szeto, a nuclear medicine physician who has been working at the San since 2018. Dr Szeto dedicated the centre to his parents, as a way to honour their legacy.

‘My father was a quietly spoken yet purposeful man,’ says Dr Szeto. ‘My mother is simply the most selfless and loving person one could imagine, deeply dedicated to her Christian faith. She always reminded us to never forget Dad, and there were frequent conversations about how best to honour his legacy.’

This donation will allow the San to both provide world-class diagnostic services, but also enhance the ability of the hospital to undertake research with the state-of-the-art technology.

‘The new centre would not exist without the contribution of the Szeto family,’ says Brett Goods, CEO of Adventist Healthcare, operator of the San. ‘We are so very grateful to Dr Szeto, and we know the new centre will make an immeasurable difference to the lives of our patients.’

The Sydney Adventist Hospital officially launched the new centre on the 20th of November.
