Photography Through the Lens of Jason Kirk
1 min read

Jason Kirk has had an itch for photography since his high school days.

Due to some unfortunate repercussions from a broken leg, Jason was not able to participate in class sport, and would instead spend his Thursday afternoons in the Art rooms, cleaning up the photography studio. He went on to do work experience as a Naval photographer, much to the displeasure of his parents, though did not end up pursuing a career in photography until later in his life.

After a fling working a stable job managing a call centre, Jason’s photography itch needed to be scratched. He began his business, Jason Kirk Photography, which is based in the Northern Beaches, and left the corporate world. Jason prides himself on being affordable, and giving his clients total freedom over the photos. Jason provides the high-resolution digital images, comparing them to old-school negatives, to his clients to do with them as they wish.

‘The majority of my customers, there are very few who don’t get the unedited images… Some photos I may not like, but they might like them for the expression on their face,’ explains Jason, describing show in a recent session, the family were given over 900 digital images to keep.

Jason is particularly interested in providing his photography expertise to charities for their events and functions. Jason Kirk was the photographer for the Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Sydney Sapphire Gala, which he has been photographing since 2015.

‘I love to give back, I don’t have a million dollars, but if I can donate my time, I will do that,’ says Jason affectionately. ‘It gives me the warm and fuzzies, and it makes me happy.’

Images of the Lifeline H2H Sydney 2023 Sapphire Gala can be seen in the mid-September edition of The Post.
