Combined Motorway Control Centre for Harbour Tunnels
1 min read

A consolidated Motorway Control Centre that will manage road incident responses for the Sydney Harbour Tunnel and future Western Harbour Tunnel is to be established in an existing Transport for NSW building on Ennis Road in Milsons Point.

Member for North Shore Felicity Wilson MP was pleased to announce that the location of the control centre will limit construction impacts on the local community and existing tenants at alternative locations.

“Not only will the incident response and communication services be streamlined, but the construction impacts on the community will be significantly reduced, by combining the communication and logistial services in one location,” Ms Wilson said.

“The control centre will be where critical safety and operational services will be provided for the Sydney Harbour Tunnel and future Western Harbour Tunnel,” Ms Wilson said.

Ms Wilson said having one control centre for our harbour tunnels will be the optimal way to manage the safe and efficient operation of these vital underground links in Sydney’s road network.

“The control centre will monitor both tunnels for traffic incidents and coordinate responses from road crews and emergency services when necessary.

“Combining the control centres is logical, cost-effective and best for the surrounding communities.”

Ms Wilson said when completed, the Western Harbour Tunnel will improve transport capacity in and around Sydney Harbour by providing a western bypass of the CBD and making it easier, faster and safer to get around the city.
