Road safety and local business in the spotlight in Ku-ring-gai
1 min read

A NOTICE of motion calling on the NSW government to provide solutions to the safety concerns posed by truck movements on Pacific Highway was adopted at the Ku-ring-gai Council meeting held on 13 December 2022.

It follows an earlier notice of motion this year calling on the government to take action to stop trucks using the Pacific Highway as a way of avoiding tolls.

Councillors questioned data put forward by local MPs and the Minister for Transport that truck movements had declined on the Pacific Highway by stating that the government’s definition of heavy trucks was not based on truck size.

The Council unanimously voted to again lobby local MPs and the Minister for a permanent ban on trucks and buses over 12.5m in length or 2.8m in height between the M1 and Ryde Road unless exempt, and for signage and cameras to be installed to monitor compliance.

The Council will hold information session early in 2023 for local businesspeople to raise awareness about opportunities to supply goods and services to Council. Council staff will also be encouraged to consider local businesses when undertaking procurement.

The next Council meeting will be on 14 February 2023.
