Campaign to protect the Hayden Orpheum
1 min read

THE Hayden Orpheum Theatre in Cremorne is a prized jewel in Sydney's crown with considerable historical, architectural and cultural significance.

The Member for Willoughby Tim James has launched a petition to lend the community’s support to the campaign to list this worthy heritage icon on the NSW State Heritage Register.

“The Orpheum holds a special place in our hearts, lives and community, and I want to see it preserved for the enjoyment of current and future generations” Mr James said.

“Many of us will have fond memories of watching a show at the Orpheum.. I will be a champion for this cause until it is delivered.”

Mr James is engaging with the theatre, community groups, council and the Minister for Heritage to ensure this listing comes to fruition.

Opened in 1935, the Orpheum is a well-preserved example of a theatre of the Art Deco style.

The much-loved theatre holds a special place in the life of the Cremorne and wider North Shore community.

Under the vision of Mike Walsh OBE AM the Orpheum underwent a considerable restoration in the 1980s. It is an icon of the past, present and future.
