Willoughby’s Lunar New Year Festivities

Starting 18th of January

THIS Lunar New Year, our community already has in place a range of festivities in place for the community to enjoy.

The most popular event is set to be the Chatswood Year of the Rabbit Festival will be held from the 18th of January until the 12th of February.

Some of the main events include The rabbit sculpture trail: Commencing at the opening of the new year (18th January) eight large-scale inflatable rabbits will be lined across Chatswood’s CBD to evoke a sense of wonder and raise questions about our relationship with the natural world, as well as a testament to the year of the rabbit of course!

Chatswood Chinese New Year Celebration Day at The Concourse on the 21st of January, entertainment such as Chinese Opera, CPOP, traditional dance and lunar new year delicacies will be featured. Chatswood Westfield will also be providing festivities over the weekend with their own entertainment, fortune cookie delights and a Lion Dancing Performance.

The Lunar New Year Comedy Festival is on the 28th of January will see a “laugh-out-loud” comedy performance at the Concert Hall in The Concourse. Each comedian featured brings their own unique sense of fun to the performance. These comedians include Diana Nguyen, Nina Oyama, Harry Jun, Jenny Tian, AJ Lamarque, Ting Lim, Chris Nguyen and Kevin Jin.

Symphony in the Park – featuring classical music from East to West. The evening of the 29th of January will encourage all locals to gather at Chatswood Oval to enjoy a concert performed by the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra. The event is free for everyone, you will just need to bring a picnic blanket to make yourselves comfortable!

Milan Ring featuring Yeo and Rainbow Chan is another concert in The Concourse Concert Hall and will feature three of Australia’s leading Asian-Australian R&B, Electronic and Hip-Hop artists on the stage. This concert will be held on Friday the 10th of February at 7:30pm.

There will be plenty of other events and activities ranging from lantern making, craft workshops, art displays and exhibitions and the Golden Market.
