2 min read

THE community of Beecroft has had their lives tainted in recent weeks due to a car collision that caused one woman serious injuries, and another to lose her life.

Beecroft residents, Cindy Kang, aged 55, and Zhen Liu, 54, were out on an evening walk.

A 20-year-old P-plater, Simon Mouait, was driving a ute where he collided with another vehicle before losing control and hitting the two women on the side of the road. Simon did immediately respond after the collision to try and help them.

Tragically, Cindy Kang died at the scene.

Paramedics were unable to help her, but they did help Zhen Liu by taking her to hospital to treat the serious injuries she sustained.

Both drivers, including Simon, remained uninjured and were taken to hospital for mandatory testing,” NSW Police stated.

Simon was arrested after the testing at the hospital. He then appeared at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 22nd of March where he was charged with a series of offences including dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and failing to stop at a red light.

Simon was released on bail after the charges were laid.

Meanwhile, family, friends, and locals have attended the corner of Beecroft Road and Hannah Street to lay flowers and pay their respects where Cindy Kang lost her life.

Beecroft local, Helen Pan, said, “All of us will remember her… she is a nice lady.”

Unfortunately, this is Beecroft's second motor-fatality in recent years

Federal Member for Berowra, Julian Leeser was quick to acknowledge the tragedy.

Mr Leeser said to The Post,

“On Friday 24th of March I went and paid my respects at Beecroft. There is a real sadness in the community. Earlier this week two women in their 50s went for an evening walk but they did not return home. Cindy Kang was killed instantly when she was hit by a motor vehicle. Her friend Zhen Liu was taken to hospital in a critical condition. My thoughts are with the Kang and Liu families and everyone in Beecroft who has been touched by their loss.”

The Post sends their thoughts to both the Kang and Liu families during this time. We also send our thoughts to everyone who attended the scene.

It is devastating to see stories like this occur in our community.
