Pick up Five to Keep our Planet Alive

CEO of Educate Plus, Neil McWhannell and Site Coordinator recalls “When encouraging people to volunteer, I asked people who could not come to get into the habit of ‘Picking up Five to Keep Our Planet Alive’ every time they visit a beach or park”.

On March 7 2021, approximately 500 kilos of rubbish was collected which included, car parts, numerous face masks and general rubbish. All recyclables were sorted for reuse with Ku-ring-gai Council to collect the many bags of rubbish.

“We had one of the strongest turnouts we have ever received, with over 30 people volunteering to clean up Wahroonga Park, Wahroonga Village and surrounding streets” states McWhannell. Volunteers included local MP Alister Henskens, Cr Donna Ward, numerous members of the Rotary Club of Wahroonga as well as a large number of members of the public who offered to assist.

Neil McWhannell, also from the Rotary Club of Wahroonga, was overwhelmed with the response for the Cleanup and by the enthusiastic efforts of all who helped.

Rotary Clubs across Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai volunteered their time for Cleanup Australia Day.
