Cherrybrook little athletics strides ahead

Four young Cherrybrook athletes are among 34 from NSW selected to attend this year’s Coles Little Athletics Australia Team Camp – one of the highest representations of any NSW Little Athletics Club.

Isabella Fisher was selected in the 400m, Sarah-Anne Koot in the 80m Hurdles, Olivia Moresi in High Jump and Xavier Hennessey in Triple Jump.

Cherrybrook Little Athletics is very proud of all four athletes, who are all dedicated to their sport and always strive to achieve their best, as well as showing exceptional sportsmanship at all times.

Isabella, Sarah-Anne, Olivia and Xavier enthusiastically participate in weekly club competitions, where they are role models to many of the younger athletes, as well as representing the club in both Little Athletics and Seniors championships events.

Isabella, Sarah-Anne, Oliva and Xavier are among 34 NSW Little Athletes chosen for this year’s national camp on October 6-8 at the Gold Coast Performance Centre. The camp provides a unique opportunity for athletes to receive coaching from some of Australia’s top coaches. Athletes will take part in training and workshops to learn more about strength and conditioning, recovery and more.

Little Athletics Australia participation, development and projects manager Andrew Johnston said the national camp was “one of the pinnacle events on our calendar and we are excited to see such a high calibre of athletes coming through”.

Cherrybrook Little Athletics is a family run sports club for children aged 5-16 of all abilities. Friday night competitions from September to March rotate through three programs of events, giving kids a chance to learn everything from sprints to distance running, throws and jumps.

Athletes compete in age groups for both boys and girls, with parents volunteering as age managers or helping at events and older athletes coaching the youngsters in proper technique and skills.

All our athletes are encouraged just to do their personal best each week, but there are also opportunities for more competitive athletes to strive to represent the club at zone, region, state and national championships – following in the footsteps of Isabella, Sarah-Anne, Olivia, Xavier and many others.

Registrations are open for the 2021/2022 season. Competition nights run from 5.45pm Fridays at Greenway Oval 2 (Shepherds Drive Cherrybook). Cherrybrook Athletics Centre Inc is a registered activity provider, so Active Kids vouchers can be used toward registration fees.
