1 min read

The wait is over. Students completing their Higher School Certificate for 2023 received their results on the 15th of December.

Over 67,000 students made up the Class of 2023, with around 55,500 receiving an ATAR, and the rest completing a vocational qualification.

‘I know students and their families will be celebrating the culmination of many years of dedication and effort,’ said Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning, Prue Car. ‘I want to wish every student the very best for what comes next ¬– whether that be heading off to university or furthering your training in a trade or a new job.’

Along with students’ results, the top-ranking schools across NSW have been named. North Sydney Boys High School, after repeatedly coming in second, has finally dethroned James Ruse Agricultural High School for the first-place ranking. For 2023, North Sydney Boys High School had 158 HSC students who received a total of 659 Band 6 scores.

Other Top Ranking High Schools included North Sydney Girls High School, ranking fourth; St Aloysius’ College, ranking sixth; Normanhurst Boys High School, ranking eighth; Abbotsleigh, ranking tenth; Knox Grammar School, ranking eleventh; and Hornsby Girls High School, ranking fourteenth.

Top performers were celebrated on the 13th of December in an annual First in Course ceremony in Parramatta. Over 120 students were awarded for achieving first place in a HSC course, including students from Ravenswood School for Girls, Knox Grammar School, Barker College, Loreto Normanhurst, St Ives High School, Killarney Heights High School, St Luke’s Grammar School, among a host of others across the North Shore and the Northern Beaches. Over 1,400 students were recognised as “All Round Achievers”, and over 18,000 earned a spot on the “Distinguished Achievers” list.

‘This is an important milestone for the Class of 2023, who today finish their schooling and move on to the next chapter of their lives,’ says Premier of NSW, Chris Minns. ‘Remember that this is just a step on your journey and there are many pathways to success.’
