Nicolette Boele ready to be Bradfield’s Independent Voice
1 min read

WITH the federal election now almost three weeks away, community independent candidate Nicolette Boele is in the final stretches of her whirlwind campaign which has seen impressive growth in support and interest in what has previously been considered a ‘safe’ seat.

The interest in independent candidates as a way to break the political deadlock seems to be just as strong in Bradfield as in neighbouring electorates. Nicolette’s campaign has the support of more than 400 volunteers in the local area, many of whom will be voting independent for the first time.

Nicolette reports that what she hears in conversations in the electorate reflects the concerns raised in the ‘Bradfield Speaks’ report recently released by the Voices of Bradfield.

“Voters keep telling me that they aren’t satisfied with action on issues that matter to them, particularly integrity in politics and climate action,” said Nicolette. “Despite overwhelming concern in the community on these issues, people feel the government isn’t listening, let alone acting.”

In her campaign, Nicolette has emphasised that as an independent, she will actually have greater power to push for the issues that matter to the people of Bradfield, regardless of which party wins government.

“As an independent, I will be free to listen to and speak for the people of Bradfield. In our parliamentary system our duty as voters is to elect representatives, nowhere does it say we have to elect a party. Bradfield voters need to decide who best represents their views now and will continue to after the election,” said Nicolette.

“After I’m elected, I will ensure we have systems and mechanisms in place to facilitate continued listening and learning from the community so I can continue to be the voice for the Bradfield community.”
